Referrals and Admissions

To review for potential suitability of placement, we require a consultation from your local authority. An EHCP (Education Health Care Plan) is required to be in place at this stage.

Upon receiving a consultation, leaders will review the paperwork to see if the school is likely to meet the child/young person’s needs. If leaders feel that needs could be met, an initial offer to assess the child/young person is made. All offers to assess are directed to the local authority in the first instance. The nature and duration of this visit will be tailored to the needs of each child/young person.

Following an assessment, which may take place onsite or at the young person’s current school, the team will confirm if Brinksway school can meet their needs.

At the end of this process, an offer letter is sent to the local authority with starting dates and fees. Within the first 12 weeks of the child starting at the school, we will arrange for a post-admission review to be held. At this meeting, the placement will be discussed and any amendments to the provision agreed with parents/carers and the local authority.

Brinksway School accepts referrals for children and young people who are:

  • Aged between 4 and 12 years.
  • Will have an educational health and care plan.
  • Will have a primary diagnosis of autism (ASC), or associated traits.
  • May have additional needs including sensory processing,  speech, language and communication, social, emotional and mental health, anxiety, pathological demand avoidance, emotionally-based school avoidance, severe and/or moderate learning difficulties and/or specific learning difficulties such as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Dyscalculia
